Description
The Ministry Leadership Internship at A&M United Methodist Church is a semester-based internship designed for college students who want to grow as Christian leaders while gaining meaningful, hands-on ministry experience. More than simply completing ministry tasks, this internship is an intentional season of leadership development, spiritual formation, mentoring, and practical ministry experience.
Interns work alongside experienced church staff, take ownership of real ministry responsibilities, and participate in a collaborative learning environment where they are encouraged to grow personally, professionally, and spiritually. Each intern is placed within one or more ministry areas based on their gifts, interests, experience, and the needs of the church, which may include College Ministry, Youth Ministry, Children's Ministry, Family Ministry, Adult Discipleship, Worship (Traditional or Contemporary), Missions & Outreach, Connections & Hospitality, Pastoral Care, Ministry Administration, or the Annex Coffeehouse Ministry.
Whether exploring a call to vocational ministry, considering nonprofit leadership, or simply wanting to grow in faith while making a difference, interns are supported through a shared leadership cohort that includes one-on-one mentoring, ministry coaching, theological reflection, and vocational discernment. No prior ministry experience is required.
Duration: One semester (15–20 hours per week), Sunday, August 23 to Sunday, December 6.
Responsibilities
- Assist with planning and leading weekly ministry programming, events, and special initiatives.
- Build relationships with children, students, college students, adults, volunteers, and church members.
- Help facilitate small groups, Bible studies, or ministry gatherings.
- Collaborate with staff and volunteers across multiple ministry areas.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings, planning meetings, and ministry check-ins.
- Take ownership of projects and ministry responsibilities within your placement area.
- Serve on Sunday mornings and at occasional evening or weekend events.
- Meet regularly with your ministry supervisor and internship mentor.
- Attend internship cohort gatherings and leadership development sessions.
- Represent A&M United Methodist Church with professionalism, integrity, and Christ-like character.
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a college or university.Growing in their faith and eager to continue learning.
- Dependable, responsible, and willing to take initiative.
- Teachable and open to coaching and feedback.
- Able to work well both independently and collaboratively.
- Passionate about serving others and contributing to the mission of the Church.
- No previous ministry experience required.
Professional Learning Outcomes
By the completion of the internship, students will:
- Develop practical leadership and ministry skills through direct ownership of programming and projects.
- Learn how a local church plans, leads, and evaluates ministry initiatives.
- Build confidence leading people, projects, and teams in a collaborative, ministry-based environment.
- Strengthen communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills through cross-team ministry work.
- Discover and articulate personal spiritual gifts, strengths, and areas for growth.
- Gain experience receiving coaching and feedback through regular mentoring and supervision.
- Reflect on vocational calling and discern how God may be leading them to serve in the Church and the world.
- Grow in relationship with Christ through intentional spiritual formation and theological reflection.
