WHAT WE BELIEVE

Our Vision

A&M United Methodist Church seeks to be a Christ-centered church made up of highly committed members worshiping God, growing as disciples, and serving others through the gifts God has given us. We affirm our heritage to minister to and with the university community. We seek to be a church that invests in the lives of persons outside of a Christ-centered congregation, inviting others to experience the wonder of God and the journey of discipleship. We desire to share the message of Christ through community, compassion and faith. We dream of being a church that makes a transforming difference in the lives of our members, our community, and our world.

Learn more about our core beliefs:

God

The one, true, omnipotent God, Creator of all things, who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ

Jesus, fully human and fully divine, who lived without sin as a perfect example, assumed the judgment due sinners by dying on the cross in our place, was raised from the dead, ascended to the heavenly Father, and offers salvation to all who repent and put their faith in Him as Lord of their lives.

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit’s indwelling presence and transforming power of God, who gives to all believers a new life, abundant and eternal, and equips us with spiritual gifts for our God-designed purpose of obedient discipleship and holy living.

Bible

The Bible, the divinely inspired writings, which reveal the Word of God: the supreme, authoritative standard for faith and practice, to be received by the community of faith through the Holy Spirit as the sure guide to a right relationship with the Lord.

Human Worth

The value and dignity of all people who, though created in God’s image to live in joy and holiness, are separated from God and each other by sin and brokenness.

Church

The unity of all who honor Jesus as Lord in the church: the Church manifesting the faith passed down from the first Apostles through worship, prayer, teaching of the Word, observance of the sacraments, fellowship, service, witness, and sacrificial outreach to others throughout the world.

Final Victory

The future return and ultimate reign of Jesus Christ, who will judge all people with justice and mercy and honor the choices we have made.

Grace
  • Prevenient Grace – Grace before you know it: the divine love that surrounds all humanity and precedes any and all of our conscious impulses.

  • Justifying Grace – Grace that puts us right: God reaches out to the repentant believer in justifying grace with accepting and pardoning love. In justification, we are, through faith, forgiven our sin and restored to God’s favor.

  • Sanctifying Grace – Grace that pulls us forward: We hold that the wonder of God’s acceptance and pardon does not end God’s saving work but that God continues to nurture our growth in grace.

Racism

We recognize racism as a sin.

We commit to challenging unjust systems of power and access.

We will work for equality in employment and promotion, education and training; in voting, access to public accommodations, and housing; to credit, loans, venture capital, and insurance; to positions of leadership and power in all elements of our life together; and to full participation in the Church and society.
