Description
The General Communications and Public Relations Internship at A&M United Methodist Church is a semester-based internship designed to provide hands-on experience in strategic communications, public relations, digital media, and ministry storytelling. The intern will support the church's ongoing communications initiatives while developing professional skills and portfolio-ready work applicable to careers in communications, public relations, nonprofit marketing, journalism, and media production.
Working directly with the Director of Communications and Director of Media Production, the intern will contribute to projects that strengthen congregational engagement, support ministry initiatives, and expand the church's reach within the community and among college students.
This internship requires approximately 24 hours per week and offers meaningful responsibility alongside mentorship and professional development opportunities.
Duration: One academic year, August through May (24 hours per week)
Responsibilities
Create and manage social media content for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms as needed.
Produce at least one video per week for social media and ministry storytelling purposes.
Develop weekly communications for the congregation, including announcements and ministry updates.
Support email marketing campaigns and church-wide communication efforts.
Assist with advertising and promotional initiatives for ministries and events.
Draft blog posts, feature stories, and other written communications.
Monitor analytics and recommend strategy adjustments to improve engagement and reach.
Respond to social media comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
Update website content and ensure information remains current and accurate.
Research trends and best practices in digital communications and brief the communications team on relevant developments.
Support communications and promotional efforts for the college ministry.
Participate in communications planning retreats and professional development opportunities.
Assist in the development and launch of new communications initiatives, including a church podcast.
Minimum Qualifications
Pursuing a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University in Communication, Journalism, or Telecommunication Media Studies, or a related field; or Blinn College in Communication Studies, Graphic Design and Photography, Arts, or a related field.
Completion of introductory coursework in news writing, graphic design, digital media, or related subjects.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
Commitment to the mission and ministry of A&M United Methodist Church.
