An Aggieland Welcome at A&M UMC

Every August, thousands of students arrive in College Station carrying more than boxes and backpacks. They bring hopes for the future, questions about what's next, and a desire to find community in a new place.

For more than a century, A&M United Methodist Church has welcomed Aggies just across the street from campus. This fall, we have three opportunities to help students find a church home, build lasting relationships, and experience the love of Christ.

Whether you have an hour to serve or are ready to invest in a student throughout the school year, there's a place for you.

Join us for Howdy Sunday on August 23

Our biggest kickoff event of the semester is Howdy Sunday, a celebration for the entire church as we welcome the Class of 2030 and returning Aggies, and begin a new year of ministry together.

Hosted by Rev. Noah Vaughn and our College Ministry, Howdy Sunday is more than a barbecue - it's a chance for our congregation to extend the kind of hospitality that has defined A&M UMC for generations.

“A&M United Methodist has poured into the students of Texas A&M for more than a century, and we continue to do so,” said Noah. "Howdy Sunday is an opportunity for our congregation to continue a tradition of welcoming students back to campus, and to let them know that we at A&M UMC can be their home away from home."

Enjoy free BBQ, fellowship, and Aggie spirit while meeting new and returning college students. The Gig 'Em Bus will also be on-site for photos, making it the perfect way to celebrate the beginning of the school year. 

"In true Texas A&M style, we want to welcome new and returning students back to Aggieland with a plate of proper Texan BBQ. While the brisket may be the main course, the fellowship on Howdy Sunday is the true star of the show. 

Welcome Students to the Neighborhood

Before classes even begin, many students will be moving into apartments throughout our Northgate neighborhood. The Good Neighbor Outreach Committee wants your help to welcome them by participating in High Rise Hospitality.

By handing out bottled water, greeting students and their families, and simply offering a friendly face during move-in weekend, you can help students know that there is a church just steps from campus that is excited to welcome them. There’s a few different jobs that need to be filled between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. 

Become an Adopt an Aggie Family

For some students, the relationships they build at A&M UMC last far beyond graduation.

One of the most meaningful ways to invest in a student's life is through Adopt an Aggie, a ministry that pairs college students with church families for friendship, encouragement, home-cooked meals, and support throughout the academic year.

Steve and Mary Alice Beachy have been part of the program for years, and they wouldn't have it any other way. Their home has become a gathering place for students around the dinner table, card games, and plenty of laughter. The Beachy’s say that they have received just as much from the students they have hosted.

“The lifestyle of being a student and trying to make the grades and do all the things you got to do can be really challenging,” said Steve. “Our home is a place that is the calm waters and a loving atmosphere and helps them reorient a compass and understand what's really, truly important.”

In Adopt an Aggie, students receive encouragement, friendship, and a place to belong.

Every person who greets a student, serves a meal, opens their home, or offers a word of encouragement helps make A&M United Methodist Church a place where students can flourish in life and faith. Together, we can help the next generation of Aggies discover that they have a church family waiting for them right here across from campus.
