Anyone with a heart for youth and a heart for Christ,

I’m so glad you are interested in becoming a part of the youth ministries at A&M UMC. Youth ministry is a fun, exciting, tiring, fulfilling, exhausting, important, rewarding, crazy type of ministry. We need all types of personalities in our youth ministry in order to relate to different types of students. Here’s a breakdown of the two main ways to minister to youth at A&M UMC.

Youth Counselor: This is the most time consuming, but rewarding, option for ministering to youth. Youth counselors are the people who do relational ministry by becoming involved in the lives of the youth. As a youth counselor, you will disciple youth and build them into stronger Christians. You will help lead and participate in UMYF on Sundays from 5:30-8:30, Bible study on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:15, attend retreats, mission trips, ski trips, and all other youth related activities. The students need leaders who are strong in their faith, men and women of integrity, and have a passion for sharing Christ with youth. You must be a sophomore or older to apply for this position. Come help us transform lives!

“the gathering” Volunteer: “the gathering” is an after school program designed for fellowship and evangelism. The goal of this program is to invite unchurched youth into Christian fellowship and then draw them into church services, Sunday school, UMYF, and Wednesday night Bible studies. This position is for anyone who has a heart for youth ministry but is new to working with youth or does not have the time to be a full time youth counselor. We ask that these volunteers commit to as little as two hours a week. As a “gathering” volunteer, you will help run our after school program from 3:45-5:30 on Mondays or Tuesdays. You can volunteer to play/supervise the gym, help with or lead arts and crafts, supervise the game room, or tutor youth. You will help provide an atmosphere that is safe and welcoming for all the youth who visit the church. Come have fun while you share the love of Christ!

If you are interested in becoming a youth counselor or a volunteer at “the gathering,” please fill out the appropriate application and turn it into me in the youth office (upstairs in the CLC).   If you have any questions, email me at clay-horton@am-umc.org or call me at 979-846-8731, ext. 229.

I hope you prayerfully consider ministering to the youth at A&M UMC.

God Bless,
Clay Horton ‘07
