                         What is Family Promise of Bryan-College Station, Inc.?

Family Promise of Bryan-College Station, Inc., is an area-wide, faith-based, non-profit ministry that supports families who are experiencing homelessness as they search for jobs, undergo job training, and obtain permanent housing. The ministry is affiliated with the nation-wide Family Promise which began in New York City in 1986. Eighty percent of the families who complete the program have secured permanent housing.

A&M UMC has been a part of a support system that has allowed the families to meet their goals of finding jobs, training, education and affordable housing. A large portion of the Family Promise budget depends on individual donations. You can visit their website at www.familypromisebcs.org  for more information and to help by your donation. One of the easiest ways to contribute is to join the Club 274 online and $23 a month will be charged to your credit card. The cost to run Family Promise for one day is $274. Checks can also be dropped off at the church office or mailed to:
A&M UMC, 417 University Drive, College Station, Texas 77840. Please write “Family Promise” in the memo line of your check.

 

           What are the goals of Family Promise?

 * Provide a safe environment in which families can stay together.
* Provide the assistance they need to become self-sufficient.


How Can Members of A&M UMC Help and Get Involved?

The Bryan/College Station Family Promise is housing families one week at time at participating churches. A&M UMC  is one of these host churches and there are many ways in which our members can become involved. When we host families we have an opportunity to share the love of Jesus Christ and this is where members can volunteer in several different areas. We need approximately 40-60 people to make each hosting week a success.

Below is a list of items we can always use in order to be good hosts. We would like sheets, mattress covers and pillow protectors to be new because they will get the most use.

  • Pillows and Pillow cases
  • Twin sheet sets (top and bottom)
  • Twin mattress protectors
  • Crib sheets and pads
  • Baby blankets
  • Clocks and Table lamps
  • Face towels and wash cloths
  • Extension cords
We also need games, a DVD player, DVD’s and books for all ages. Bring items to the church office.

The areas you can help with are:
  • Meal preparation – Dinner and breakfast
  • Activities for adults, youth and children
  • Set-up and Take-down
  • Manage supplies
  • Overnight host
  • Wash linens
  • Van Drivers
    •

This is a wonderful opportunity to serve people outside our walls and show these families what a welcoming church we truly are.
